A collection of short stories at the A1 level, for everyone who wants to improve their Polish language skills and expand their vocabulary. “READ step by step” has been designed as a set of supplementary materials for both independent work and use in group classes. They can be treated as a review or consolidation of material, as homework, or inspiration for games, discussions, skits, etc. The lexical and grammatical content of the first five volumes of the “READ step by step” series aligns almost perfectly with every textbook for learning Polish for beginners; however, it is most closely related to the textbook "POLISH step by step 1". • Contains 5 modules with 2 texts each, followed by lexical-grammatical exercises checking reading comprehension skills (answer key at the end of the book). • The lexical-grammatical content of one module corresponds to one chapter of the “POLISH step by step 1” textbook, and the numerical order matches that of the textbook. • Simple, humorous stories complement knowledge about already known and liked characters from the series while introducing new colorful figures. • Translations of more difficult words and phrases are found in the margins, and each module ends with a thematic dictionary containing vocabulary to master at this stage of learning; additionally, an English-Polish dictionary collecting lexical material from throughout the volume is included at the end in alphabetical order. • The thematic dictionaries closing individual modules are constructed to maximize memorization of newly learned vocabulary, while an additional column "your example" allows students to check if they have understood a word correctly and can use it properly in context. • Texts can be read in any order – each is a complete whole; however, reading them step by step is recommended. • Downloadable recordings allow further practice on pronunciation, intonation as well as improving listening comprehension skills. The further adventures of the characters will be followed in subsequent volumes gradually progressing to higher levels requiring readers'' familiarity with more advanced grammatical structures and richer vocabulary.
