Szninkiel

"Twinkletoes" - a masterpiece and legend of the world of commission art. A story that has consistently delighted readers and reviewers for many years. A story that draws extensively on both ancient religious traditions and 20th century pop culture: from Germanic myths to the world of Tolkien and Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey', with a key role for the reinterpreted Christian saviour motif. An album known first in black and white and later in colour - and graphically superb in both forms! It was meant to be created as a nice interlude for the authors in the creation of the next volumes of the 'Thorgal' series, and turned out to be a milestone in the popular culture of our time. The famous Belgian scriptwriter Jean Van Hamme, co-creator of dozens of adventure, thriller, historical and fantasy series (including 'Largo Winch', 'XIII'), and the excellent Polish illustrator Grzegorz Rosiński ('Complaint of Lost Lands', 'Revenge of the Count of Treasure', 'Western') created an outstanding album in 1986-1987, although it was planned only as a form of rest from the equally well-known adventures of the black-haired Viking.... On the planet Daar, a war between three powers has been raging since time immemorial, in which the masses of innocent creatures, including the people of the undersized, peaceful Shninkels, suffer most. But it is from among them that O'n, the one and only God, the Creator of Worlds, chooses a young man who is given the task of bringing the eternal war to an end and saving the world. J'on will travel half a planet and see wonders and horrors he never even suspected existed. But will he be able to carry the weight of his role as saviour? And what can one little Sninkel, even supported by friends who believe in his God-given mission, do against the world's greatest powers? The scriptwriter confronts the reader with a multitude of difficult, even fundamental, questions about religion, civilisation or the desires of mortal beings - but does not provide clear-cut or ideologically driven answers. Everyone must find them for themselves. And since the album is illustrated in a masterly manner, vividly depicting every aspect of the depicted world, we feel that the story is really happening, and that it concerns not only the characters invented for the comic book's needs, but ourselves - people of today. Does the weight of the content depicted in 'Kninkle' make the story sad and gloomy? Absolutely not! In addition to passages requiring pathos or showing the tragic aspects of life, the authors of the comic book do not skimp on humour or parodic elements, both in terms of dialogue and events, as well as drawings. There is also no lack of aesthetically diverse erotic scenes. Above all, however, we are dealing with a pure, exciting adventure, gripping until the very last page - right up to the very end of J'on's story, when we witness the fulfilment of God's will. This is a story not to be forgotten. Such stories shape the image of contemporary art for decades.
